Set Up Dial-Up Networking in Windows ME

1) Click on Start -> Settings -> Dial-Up Networking.

2) In the Dial-Up Networking window that appears, double click on Make New Connection.

3) Type a name for the computer your are dialing (name it IOL or IOL Dialup) and make sure your modem is selected under the Select a device menu. Then click Next.

4) In the next screen, In Area Code field enter 304 and in the Telephone Number field type in the access number. Then click Next.
*Note* click here for a complete list of IOL's access numbers

5) Then you will a window saying that you have successfully created a new dial networking connection. Click Finish to complete this part of the setup.

You will now see a new connection with the name you gave it in the Dial-Up Networking window.

6) Right-click on that connection. From the pop-up menu that appears, click on Properties.

7) Then click the Security tab.

8) If you want the dial-up connection to remember your username and password, fill in the User Name box with your IOL login name and the Password box with your IOL password. (NOTE: If you share the use of your computer with someone else, you may not want to save this information in the connection, and instead enter your login name and password manually every time you connect).

9) Click OK to finish setting up the dial-up connection.

To create a shortcut to this dial-up connection on your desktop, select the connection you just created in the Dial-Up Networking window by clicking it once. In the menu bar of the window, click on File and then choose Create Shortcut.

A window will appear telling you that it could not create a shortcut and will ask you if you want to place the shortcut on the desktop instead. Click on Yes.

Your Windows ME computer comes with a copy of Internet Explorer. However, if you would prefer to use Netscape , you can download a copy of it from our software page.
